Jason Orthner, NCDOT Rail Division Director, emphasizes that “these projects deliver significant benefits to North Carolina’s freight rail network, strengthening reliability and resilience, supporting businesses across the state, and reinforcing the rail infrastructure that drives the state’s economy.”

New York, in January, awarded USD 101 million for 25 rail and port projects through the Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program (PFRAP), one of the largest coordinated funding rounds in the country. Marie Therese Dominguez, NYSDOT Commissioner, states that “rail and port infrastructure is critical to New York’s global presence, providing efficient and cost-effective solutions to move goods to market quickly and efficiently.” The projects focus on modernizing freight corridors, improving yard capacity, rehabilitating bridges, and expanding intermodal facilities that connect rail to maritime transport.
