Czech turnout manufacturer DT – Výhybkárna a Strojírna has delivered 14 turnouts and three crossings for use on new and existing metro lines in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to railwaygazette.com, the first contract came from construction company CFG Çelikler, which ordered 10 turnouts with manganese steel crossings for the metro line M14 between Altunizade and Bosna Bulvarı, currently under construction.

The second contract was awarded directly by the city’s metro operator. It covered four turnouts and three crossings with explosion-hardened manganese-steel crossings, intended as spare parts for installation at various locations across the metro network as required.

DTVS previously supplied turnouts to Istanbul eight years ago. CEO Marek Smolka said on July 28: ‘Returning to the Turkish market and securing two contracts for the Istanbul metro represent a significant export success for us.’

‘Every transport system has its own technical requirements and operating conditions. International projects therefore place high demands not only on the quality and precision of workshop production, but also on thorough technical and project preparation before manufacturing itself begins,’ Smolka added.

Sales Director Dušan Kadlec highlighted the value of international collaboration: ‘Co-operation with public transport operators, construction companies and infrastructure managers in different countries helps us to advance.’

‘Individual cities use different technical solutions, standards and maintenance methods. In every such project, we therefore not only apply our own experience, but also gain new insights and knowledge that we can subsequently use in the design and preparation of future contracts,’ Kadlec said.

The deliveries underline the growing role of specialised European manufacturers in supplying components for major urban rail expansion projects. The M14 line is part of Istanbul’s ongoing efforts to extend its metro network, and the provision of spare parts for existing lines ensures operational reliability across the system.

DTVS’s return to the Turkish market after eight years signals renewed confidence in the region’s infrastructure development. The company’s ability to meet the specific technical requirements of Istanbul’s metro network demonstrates the importance of tailored engineering in international rail projects.

The contracts also reflect the broader trend of cross-border cooperation in the rail industry, where manufacturers bring specialised expertise to support urban mobility solutions in rapidly growing cities.
