Polish operator MPK Poznań has placed an order with its in-house manufacturer Modertrans Poznań for 10 Moderus Gamma trams, with an option for a further 20 vehicles. The contract also includes depot equipment, spare parts, warranty repairs and staff training for operations and maintenance.

According to railwaygazette.com, each tram is priced at 16.1m złoty (€3.74m). The new vehicles will be similar to the 30 Moderus Gamma LF 04 AC BD trams that have been entering service since January 2025. MPK also operates 52 older Gamma trams across its network.

The 32 m long, fully low-floor trams are scheduled for delivery in 2028. They are intended to replace older vehicles, primarily Tatra and Moderus Beta cars. The trams will be equipped with air-conditioning, CCTV cameras, LED lighting, passenger information systems and ramps to enable level boarding.

The new vehicles will also incorporate diagnostic systems and offer improved energy efficiency, driver ergonomics and passenger comfort features, based on experience gained from operating the existing Gamma trams.

The deal is backed by 175m złoty of co-financing from the EU’s European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021–27 programme. MPK Poznań said that exercising the options for more trams would be subject to the availability of further funding.

‘Poznań has one of the best public transport fleets in Poland, if not the best’, said the city’s Mayor, Jacek Jaśkowiak. ‘For more than 10 years, we have been consistently investing in modern trams and buses for our residents.’
